Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC)
There are several Long-acting contraceptive options available including injections, Intra uterine devices or an implant under the skin. LARCs are a great option if you are looking for a long-term solution, or if you have side effects from other contraceptive methods or find it hard to remember to take the pill.
If you would like a LARC please make an appointment with one of our GPs to talk about your options. Some patients may also be eligible for funded services to cover the consultation and contraception fees.
Cervical Screening
HPV screening is the method for cervical screening in New Zealand. HPV testing is a better first screening test. It looks for the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer.
There are now two options available to complete the screening:
- Vaginal swab, you can either self-test or a trained health professional can assist you. The swab is quick and easy to do but may not be suitable for everyone.
- Cervical sample (the traditional smear test) taken by a health professional.
In some instances, this service is fully funded and if eligible there is no cost to the patient.
